Pokhara

Early morning we took a 7 hour coach ride to Pokhara, passing by very congested, narrow and windy roads. The ride seemed treacherous at times as traffic was really heavy. The road users risked life and limb just to move around.

Pokhara is the 2nd largest city of Nepal. It is about 200km west of Kathmandu. Pokhara is the main base for those who wished to trek the Annapurna region of the Himalayas. Popular treks include the Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp (ABC).

Streets of Pokhara

Those were street food found in Pokhara and cost only cents. The samosa were stuffed with curried potatoes and tasted really good.

We stayed at Meera Hotel by Fewa Lake. The region was also lined with street shops and eating places. Pokhara was peaceful and not as congested and crowded as Kathmandu.

Restaurant staff barbecuing food on the street, trying to entice customers.

One of the places we visited at Pokhara was the Tibetian Refugee Centre. This place houses the Tibetans who moved to Nepal in the 1950s5 when China invaded Tibet and the Dalai Lama escaped to India.

Carpets for sale.

Visiting Devi's fall. You need to walk down quite a few hundred metres to see this.  Takes about half an hour to climb up and down for the visit.

Getting tired of having to take another 7hr coach ride back to Kathmandu, we decided to take a domestic flight instead. It cost USD$96 one way and half an hour only.

Getting ready to board the plane

If you sit on the left side of the plane, you will get to see the Himalayas all throughout the journey.
